President Donald Trump on Sunday condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin, declaring that he āhas gone absolutely CRAZYā following the largest aerial bombardment by Moscow since the start of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine three years ago.
āIāve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY!ā Trump wrote on Truth Social. āHe is needlessly killing a lot of people, and Iām not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever.ā
Trumpās remarks came just hours after he told reporters, āIām not happy with what Putin is doing. Heās killing a lot of people, and I donāt know what the hell happened to Putin.ā
The comments followed a weekend of intense Russian aerial attacks. From Friday through Sunday, Moscow launched overnight strikes across Ukraine, killing at least 29 people and injuring dozens more, according to Ukrainian officials. Saturday night into Sunday marked the most intense wave of missile and drone strikes since the war began, Ukrainian sources said.
Trumpās sharp rebuke is being interpreted in Western capitals as a sign that even the U.S. administration ā often accused of being soft on Russia ā has grown increasingly frustrated with Putinās refusal to accept a proposed 30-day ceasefire.
In response, the Kremlin on Monday sought to dismiss Trumpās comments, labeling them as an āemotional reactionā rather than a strategic shift in U.S. policy.
