Julie Chrisley Released From Prison After Donald Trump Pardons Sentence

Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley are no longer behind bars.

The Chrisley Knows Best couple, who spent the last two years incarcerated on fraud charges, have both officially been freed after President Donald Trump pardoned their prison sentences.

Not long after Todd was released from prison in Florida on May 28, Julie also walked out of the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Ky., their attorney confirmed to E! News.

The pair are now on their way home to Nashville, according to the lawyer.

Todd, 56, and Julie, 52, were found guilty on charges of wire fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States in June 2022. They reported to prison in January 2023.

Though Todd was initially ordered to spend 12 years in prison, his sentence was reduced to 10 years in September 2023 amid his incarceration. Meanwhile, Julie’s seven-year sentence was overturned in June 2024 after an appeals court ruled that the original judge in her trial had miscalculated, but later upheld.

Trump announced his plans to pardon the couple on May 27, telling their daughter Savannah Chrisley in an Oval Office phone call, “Give them my regards.”

“They were given a pretty harsh treatment based on what I’m hearing,” the president said, per a video posted by the Special Assistant to the President and Communications Advisor Margo Martin on X, formerly Twitter. “I hear they’re terrific people. This should not have happened.”

A White House official told E! News that Trump knows Savannah, but has never met Todd or Julie. Alice Marie Johnson, a criminal justice reform advocate who was granted clemency by Trump in 2018 after Kim Kardashian publicly pushed for her release, was the one who presented the Chrisleys’ case to the POTUS.

“Thank you, Mr. President,” Savannah, 27, tearfully told Trump during the phone call, with her brother Grayson Chrisley, 19, later jumping on the line to give his thanks for “bringing my parents back.”

The siblings’ brother Kyle Chrisley, who Todd shares with ex Teresa Terry, also spoke out in the wake of the pardoning news, telling E! News in a statement, “I’m ecstatic. Truly.”

“I know Savannah had been working at this for so long and she never gave up,” continued the 33-year-old, who became estranged from Todd amid his legal troubles. “So, I’m just grateful to her and to President Trump for making this happen for my dad and Julie.”

Tune into E! on June 1 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. to watch Chrisley Knows Best all day.

Indicted on Tax Evasion and Other ChargesTodd and Julie Chrisley were indicted on 12 counts by a federal grand jury in Atlanta in August 2019 on charges included wire fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States, according to a document obtained by NBC News. Prosecutors claimed fraud began in the mid-aughts—inclusive of evading nearly $2 million in state taxes between 2008 and 2016 and hiding over $1 million dollars from the IRS.The day before the indictment was issued, Todd maintained he and his wife were innocent, and instead said a trusted employee had been stealing from and blackmailing the couple.”We have nothing to hide and have done nothing to be ashamed of,” he wrote in a statement posted to Instagram. “Not only do we know we’ve done nothing wrong, but we’ve got a ton of hard evidence and bunch of corroborating witnesses that proves it.”

Todd and Julie Found GuiltyIt wasn’t until three years later that the Chrisley Knows Best stars went to trial. Following three weeks of testimonies, the pair, who had pleaded not guilty, were convicted on all counts of tax evasion and bank fraud on June 7, 2022.The U.S. attorney’s office had alleged the duo and their accountant Peter Tarantino—who stood trial with them—conspired to defraud banks out of more than $30 million over the course of a decade. “As today’s outcome shows, when you lie, cheat and steal, justice is blind as to your fame, your fortune, and your position,” Keri Farley, Special Agent in Charge of FBI Atlanta, said in a June 2022 statement. “In the end, when driven by greed, the verdict of guilty on all counts for these three defendants proves once again that financial crimes do not pay.”

Sentenced to Multiple Years in PrisonFive months later, the Northern District of Georgia sentenced Todd to 12 years behind bars and Julie to seven years. (Peter was sentenced to three years in prison.)”Over the course of a decade, the defendants defrauded banks out of tens of millions of dollars while evading payment of their federal income taxes,” U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan said in a November 2022 statement. “Their lengthy sentences reflect the magnitude of their criminal scheme and should serve as a warning to others tempted to exploit our nation’s community banking system for unlawful personal gain.”However, Julie and Todd’s respective sentences were shortened in September 2023—with Julie scheduled to be released a year and three months earlier, and Todd two years earlier than his originally scheduled 2035 release.”Without a doubt, Todd and Julie are model incarcerated individuals who received exorbitant sentences,” Jay Surgent, the pair’s attorney, told Insider in September 2023. “I believe Todd is down to 10 years and Julie is now at five years.”
