A county district attorney in Georgia has been ordered to pay over $54,000 in legal fees for violating the state’s Open Records Act.

The issue arose when the office failed to provide records requested by a defense attorney representing a defendant in a high-profile case.

The judge noted the office showed clear resistance to the attorney’s requests. This ruling follows previous scrutiny of the prosecutor’s conduct in the case.

A new state law now allows defendants to seek reimbursement for legal fees if a prosecutor is disqualified due to misconduct.
