Former President Barack Obama has opened a new chapter in his personal life, sharing for the first time publicly the challenges he experienced in his marriage to Michelle Obama during his time as president of the United States.

He admitted that his time in politics had a profound impact on his relationship with his wife, describing it as a difficult time for the couple.

In an interview with Hamilton College President Stephen Tepper, Obama stressed that there had been a “deep rift” between him and Michelle.

“So I try to get out of that situation by doing fun things from time to time,” he added.

Meanwhile, Michelle Obama has also shared her experiences, indicating that while Barack was engaged in politics, she was focused on raising their daughters, Sasha and Malia.

During this period, the couple faced rumors of a possible divorce, due to the fact that Michelle did not accompany her husband to several important events, such as the funeral of President Jimmy Carter and the inauguration of Donald Trump.

Despite the rumors, Michelle and Barack have tried to minimize these speculations, occasionally posting photos together and love messages on the anniversary of Valentine’s Day, showing that their relationship has survived the trials of time.

Michelle and Barack met in the late 1980s at a law firm and married in 1992.

In a recent podcast with her brother, Craig Robinson, Michelle emphasized that marriage is not always easy and requires constant effort and acceptance of the flaws of the partner.

She also shared one of the biggest concerns, mentioning Barack’s tardiness and the difficulty he has had in being punctual.
