The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has made a decision that directly affects the American public media. He has ordered the suspension of federal funds for public television and radio, PBS and NPR, describing these as media that “spread propaganda”.
The news has been officially confirmed by the White House, which has reposted Trump’s executive order on the “X” platform, making it clear that financial support for these two public institutions has now been cut off.
According to Trump, these media are funded by taxpayers and spread propaganda, adding that their government funding is unnecessary.
According to the order signed by the American President, not only is any new funding for PBS and NPR stopped, but current funding will also be cut off immediately.
Trump has clarified that no recipient of funds from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) will be allowed to use federal funds for these two media outlets.
Along the same lines, the president has also sent a warning to third-party agencies, asking them to stop any form of direct or indirect funding for NPR and PBS.
