Pope Leo to hold mass in Chicago and people think he is trolling Trump for one major reason

Pope Leo XIV, the first American-born pontiff in Catholic Church history, is drawing renewed attention for an upcoming appearance that has social media abuzz—largely due to its timing. On June 14, the Pope is set to deliver a video message during a large outdoor Mass in Chicago, the same day as former President Donald Trump’s planned birthday parade in Washington, D.C.

While both events were independently scheduled, their overlap has generated curiosity and conversation across platforms, with many observers pointing out the striking contrast in tone and messaging.

The Mass, organized by the Archdiocese of Chicago, will take place at Guaranteed Rate Field—home to the Pope’s favorite Major League Baseball team, the Chicago White Sox. Vatican officials say the Pope’s virtual message is aimed at encouraging youth engagement in the Church and promoting values such as peace, unity, and service.

Meanwhile, former President Trump’s event in the nation’s capital is set to feature patriotic displays including military flyovers and ceremonial processions, in honor of his 79th birthday. Though the two events serve very different purposes, the coinciding dates have fueled plenty of commentary online.
