Fortune Feimster’s marriage is coming to an end.
The comedian and her wife Jacquelyn “Jax” Smith are going their separate ways after nearly five years of marriage, she announced.
“Together, we have made the difficult decision to end our marriage,” the statement, shared on Instagram June 2, read. “We’ve been separated for a little bit, both of us dealing with tough health situations in our families, so it wasn’t something we were ready to talk about.”
“While we are sad to see this chapter of our lives come to a close, we wish each other nothing but the best as we move forward,” the message continued. “We’ve had 10 years together, and there’s so much to celebrate about that and so much we will look back on fondly. Out of respect to each other and our families, we ask for privacy as we navigate this challenging time in both of our lives.”
The couple—who started dating in 2015 and tied the knot in 2020—don’t have any kids together, but their Pomeranian pup Biggie has been heavily featured on their Instagram pages, even made an appearance in Fortune’s Netflix comedy special Good Fortune in 2022.
Prior to the split, Fortune spoke openly about her love for Jax on her Handsome podcast, as well as on social media.
“Happy 4th wedding anniversary to my beautiful wife Jax!” the 44-year-old wrote in an October Instagram post. “This most recent trip to Greece finally felt like a proper honeymoon so this one feels extra special.”
She continued, “There’s so much I appreciate about you and our relationship but I think my most favorite thing is after ten years together we still laugh as much as ever. No wave is gonna rain on our parade. I love you.”

Jax responded to the anniversary post by commenting with an infinity symbol and heart emojis, to which Fortune replied with a kissing face.
In November, the Chelsea Lately alum captioned selfies with her wife and their dog on Instagram, “Always happy when we’re together. And love that we got some good family time in this week. Hope everyone’s had a nice Thanksgiving!”
For her part, Jax also recently celebrated some “fun memories” with Fortune. After attending Elton John’s AIDS Foundation Oscars viewing party, where they watched Chappell Roan and Lil Wayne perform, the Michigan native wrote on Instagram in March, “What a fun weekend.”
“Good-bye,” Jax added alongside selfies with her wife. “I’m dead and going back into hibernation.”
